Brendan Dewan has knocked back a $160,000 offer for his emerging star Dewana Star, after the youngster impressed at Shepparton in preparation for Monday night’s Northern Districts Cup.
“They could offer half a million dollars for him, and I still wouldn’t take it,” owner, trainer breeder Brendan Dewan said.
Dewana Star heads into the Cup heats after narrowly missing the 390-metre track record at Shepparton at his most recent start.
Dewana Star goes 21.63 seconds over the 390 metres at Shepparton from box eight.
A winner of four from five starts, the exciting prospect has drawn box one for only the second time in his short career.
“He’s a lot more mature now compared to his first start when he was beaten from box one,” Dewan said.
“I think he’s much better suited over 450 metres and beyond.”
Dewana Star will exit box one in race seven on Monday at Shepparton, as Dewan chases his first Northern Districts Cup title since winning the event nine years ago with Dewana Result.
